BMW has already extended its performance-ready sports-car engineering to the X5 SAV, which got a major power boost in the form of an M performance variant. Now, two other nameplates in the BMW crossover lineup are getting M performance models. BMW revealed special X3 and X4 models at the Nurburgring with some brand new specs, signaling that M models are on the way.
On the subject of the power of the new performance crossovers, BMW M president Frank van Meel said in a press release, “The BMW X3 M and the BMW X4 M will set benchmarks in terms of dynamics in their respective vehicle segment.”
As of right now, there’s no word on specific numbers when it comes to the X3 M and X4 M’s respective powertrains, but the two vehicles will be sharing both a platform and a brand-new turbocharged inline-six engine.
However, we can make a guess. The X3 M does have a comparable sedan model that is already out, the M3. Its powertrain generates 425 horsepower, so The Drive guessed that the M Performance models of the BMW X3 and X4 will have similar specs. BMW promised more information on the vehicles will come out in the first quarter of 2019, including the possibility of a launch date.
Here at BMW of Fort Wayne, we can hardly wait. If you can’t wait either, you can come and have a look at the current M performance lineup today.
